Q2 2011: Easy-IPv6
For Easy-IPv6 we have moved away from the client/database architecture to a three tier design utilising a dedicated Easy-I P server. This new architecture allows us to implement many of the features that were previously impossible. Some of these are listed below.
Architecture and code |
Every line of code has been reviewed or rewritten. |
| Speed |
As most of the work is now done on the server, less network traffic is required. This results in significantly faster response times. To improve response times even more data between the client and the server is compressed by default. |
Authentication |
Easy-IPv6 will ship with it's own native authentication and Windows authentication. Additional security modules will be added in future releases. |
Automatic Client Updates |
Windows clients are seamlessly updated if they attempt to connect to a different version of the Easy-IP server. When a new version of Easy-IP is released you simply update the server and the clients will take care of themselves. |
| Future compatibility with multiple database servers |
All previous versions of Easy-IP have required a specific database server. This will still be the case for Easy-IPv6.0 but the new architecture allows us to support additional database servers in future releases. |
| Centralised client files |
Client files such as reports, templates etc are now stored on the server. This means that no matter which computer a client uses to access Easy-IP their environment will remain consistent. Additionally, administrators will be able to create a default environment for new users. No more sending custom reports out to your users, they will be right there on the server when the user logs in. |
| Partially allocated child subnets |
One of the most commonly asked questions about Easy-IP was 'why can't I only add the child subnets that I need?'. Well, in V6 you can using our powerful new subnet creation tools, |
| Unlimited undos |
Previous versions of Easy-IP only allowed you to undo the last action. With Easy-IPv6 you will be able to undo actions all the way back to the start of your current session. |
New change control logging system |
The change control logging in previous versions was great, but it could take up a lot of space in the database. The new logging system is much more tightly integrated into Easy-IP and, as such, reduces the amount of storage space required. You can also view record revisions from within the Easy-IP client and revert back to previous revisions. |
Password control |
When using native authentication users can now change their passwords from within Easy-IP. They can also request a forgotten username and change their password if they have forgotten it. |
| Unicode |
With Easy-IPv6 you will be able to enter data using characters from any language. Chinese? Japanese? No problem. |
| New host discovery |
The new host discovery will seem familiar to exisiting users, but now allows for much greater flexibility. It will also feature the ability to run Discovery Bots on remote networks. |
| System Logs |
You can watch in realtime as users access the Easy-IP server, logging whatever level of information you require. From simply displaying errors to full debug logs. |

| Multi Stack Interfaces |
Link multiple IP addresses together. Ideal for Dual stack configurations. |
| Call External Host Discovery modules |
Call external applications from within the Easy-IP Host Discovery and store the results in the Database. |
